Newsletter 30 April 2021

Dear Residents,

We have had 2 armed robberies in 2 of our local restaurants in the last 3 weeks.  We are sending our thoughts and support to all those who were impacted by these traumatic events.  Please reach out if you need any help

Tips on what to do during an armed robbery:

  1. Remain calm. Do only what is demanded.
  2. Raise your hands and don’t move. If you must move, tell them what you are going to do. Ensure they can always see your hands.
  3. Don’t have a discussion with them. Don’t try to change their mind. Speak only if spoken to. Answer in a confident voice and with short sentences.
  4. Keep them informed. Ensure there are no surprises.
  5. Give them what they demand.

Remembering the following characteristics will help immensely, but please avoid eye contact:

  • Age
  • Sex
  • Race
  • Height
  • Weight
  • Hair
  • Clothing, what shoes they are wearing
  • Weapon (size, type, etc.)
  • Other distinctive signs (scars, tattoos, accent) or specific odours (alcohol, tobacco).

What did they touch?  This could assist the police in lifting fingerprints.

Do not give chase when the suspects take off. Note the direction of their getaway and a description of their vehicle, if applicable (licence plate number, make and colour of vehicle). Next, activate the alarm system and call the police.

REMEMBER:  To please report all crimes at the Police Station, no matter how small.  This is vital to give us a clearer picture of what is happening in our area.

REMINDER: Please log any complaints through the city’s Service Requests channels  https://eservices1.capetown.gov.za/coct/wapl/zsreq_app/index.html
This can be if a street light/s needs fixing or you see potholes, water leaks, dumping of litter,  squatters, drainage issues etc.  Please log it!

Har-Lyn neighbourhood watch is needing support and looking for patrollers.  Please consider signing up with them to help keep us all safer.  https://www.harlynwatch.org.za/
