HVCID Newsletter February 2023

Dear Residents of Harfield Village,

I hope you had a good Festive Season and that 2023 finds you safe and as ready for the year ahead as you can be.  I returned from the UK and I am so grateful to live in this beautiful, complex country.  It is Community, Family and Friends that make this home…We as South Africans are so resilient and that is something most people in other Countries pay to learn and understand!

* Please remember to report any areas of concern to the City *If the issue persists, please keep logging your complaint as areas are given priority by the number of complaints received. So the more you log, the more chance something will be done!
If they do not respond, please send me an email, with your reference numbers to follow up!

An appeal for us to reduce water consumption…

As water usage continues to climb to pre-drought levels, Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis has urged residents and businesses to unite behind the City’s proactive water savings target of using less than 850 million litres daily. Cape Town experienced below-average rainfall during the 2022 hydrological year, and dam levels are now 62%, which is almost 25% lower than they were at this time last year. Besides the risk of another below-average winter rainfall season ahead, sustained high stages of load-shedding can disrupt drinking water production and reticulation, which may affect high-lying residential properties in particular. Let’s be water-wise and work together to use less water now. Please click on the link for more information.

NB!!  City hosting online meeting about beetle threat.

The City of Cape Town is hosting an online public meeting about the invasive Polyphagous Shot Hole Borer beetle (PSHB). The beetle poses a serious threat to our urban forest as infested trees have to be chipped. Residents are encouraged to get involved in preventing this pest from spreading even further. Some trees in Newlands, Rondebosch, Mowbray and Claremont have been infested already, with the Liesbeek River being identified as a priority pathway.
Details of the online meeting:

In 2023 it would be wonderful for us to work together to make our Village as safe as we can.  One way to do this is to become part of the Har-Lyn Neighbourhood Watch.
They do amazing work in the Community and are a vital part in our fight against crime. Har-Lyn needs more patrollers!  NO patroller is asked to put themselves at risk and there is solid back-up from armed responses in the area.
