HVCID Newsletter July 2023

In Partnership with

 Dear Residents of Harfield Village,

I would like to share a few safety tips and crime trends with you.  Please take a few minutes to read some important information that may help prevent you becoming a victim of a crime.

There is an upswing in theft out of motor vehicles with the aim of accessing spare wheels and jacks in a number of sectors in Claremont.
Please don’t leave valuables in cars – visible or in your boot.

Theft from Complexes: If you live in a flat complex please try form a WhatsApp group and include the janitor/groundman/board of trustees .
Don’t leave windows on the communal passage open nor balcony doors that can be easily accessed.
Put your electronic equipment such as laptops, iPad, tablets away before you leave home.
Don’t leave valuables near open windows and doors.
Look at weak access points and put security measures in place.
Work together with trusted neighbours to stay safe.
Join your street WhatsApp groups in Harfield Village.

Theft of Cell phones: Please be vigilant on our streets and try not to use your cellphones outside as they become an easy target and so do you!

Fraud: There has been a huge increase in cases opened at Claremont SAPS for online fraud. Please see a message from the CPF in the link below
https://www.hvcid.co.za/a-message-from-claremont-community-police-forum/

If you are the unfortunate victim of a crime or attempted crime, no matter how small, please:
– post the incident on our HVCID Crime Alert WhatsApp Group ASAP. If you can, take note of as much detail as possible.
If a vehicle is involved – give a *partial* vehicle registration (I.e. CA123 xxx), color, make, model. You can send me the full registration number.
Number of occupants, gender of occupants, location and what direction they are travelling in.
Give a comprehensive description of the individual/s (eg. W/male wearing red hoodie with a green bag and white takkies.) Any distinct markings?
Open a case at SAPS as soon as you can. The quicker you go to SAPS, the easier it is to hopefully apprehend and arrest the suspect/s.
Please WhatsApp me the case number on 081 412 6109.
No posting of pictures, but please forward them to me, your Security company, your Neighbourhood watch or SAPS.

Stay as safe as you can and please be aware!
